Arrowhead Advance represents more than just a lending serviceβit embodies the spirit of economic self-determination and community empowerment that has guided the Oglala Sioux Tribe for generations. Our story is intertwined with the rich history and resilient culture of the Lakota people who call the Pine Ridge Reservation home.
Operated by the Wakpamni Lake Community Corporation (WLCC), we are a wholly-owned entity of the Wakpamni Lake Community, a municipal government within the Wakpamni District of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. Our formation reflects a strategic commitment to economic development, job creation, and financial sustainability for our tribal community.
ποΈ Our Foundation
As a tribal lending enterprise, we operate under the sovereign authority of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. This unique position allows us to serve customers nationwide while reinvesting revenue directly into programs and services that benefit our tribal community and support our cultural heritage.
The Oglala Sioux Tribe
The Oglala Sioux Tribe, one of the seven bands of the Titowan (Lakota) division of the Great Sioux Nation, has maintained its presence in the Northern Plains for centuries. The name "Oglala," meaning "Scatter Their Own," reflects the historical pattern of our people spreading across the vast landscapes of what is now South Dakota.
The Pine Ridge Reservation, established in 1889, encompasses approximately 2.2 million acres in southwestern South Dakota. It is the eighth-largest reservation in the United States and home to over 40,000 enrolled tribal members. Despite facing significant economic challenges, including limited employment opportunities and infrastructure needs, our community remains committed to self-sufficiency and cultural preservation.
The Wakpamni Lake Community
Within the broader Oglala Sioux Tribe, the Wakpamni Lake Community serves as a local tribal government entity with specific responsibilities for economic development and community welfare. The Wakpamni Lake Community Corporation was established to create sustainable revenue sources that could fund essential services, infrastructure improvements, and educational programs for tribal members.
Arrowhead Advance emerged from this vision of economic development. By entering the financial services sector, we created a mechanism to generate revenue while providing a legitimate service to consumers across the country. Every loan we make contributes to the economic health of our community, supporting:
- Essential tribal government services and administration
- Education and scholarship programs for tribal youth
- Healthcare initiatives and wellness programs
- Infrastructure development and maintenance
- Cultural preservation and language revitalization efforts
- Economic development and job creation initiatives
